Come join us for an evening of Brazilian music from 6-8pm.
Brazilian group led by Felipe Hostins and Gil Oliveira, Massaranduba presents a brazilian style of music called Forró, from the northeast of Brazil, and explores the crossroads between other Brazilian universes.
Hostins and Oliveira have been playing together for many years. Their collaboration spans performances in the vibrant Brazilian Music scene of NYC, musical recordings-including Cyro Baptista`s new album CHAMA; recorded with the Italian icon Jovanotti, to sharing the stage with great artists such as Paquito D`Rivera, among others.
Forró is social dance music created at the turn of the 19th century from the melding of Portuguese button-accordion tunes and African rhythms. In the cowboy culture of the rocky, arid Brazilian sertão, the word “forró” became a catchall phrase for the music, the dance style that accompanies it, and the event where it is played. These can last all night long, with couples young and old dancing close, legs locked, rocking to the infectious rhythms of the sanfona (accordion), the zabumba (bass drum) and the triangle.
